2024 is here. It's a new year and time to make your resolutions. When thinking about all the good things you want to do this year, don't forget about your car (and any vehicles you own or lease). It can be very easy to neglect our vehicles when staying busy with everyday life. We are preoccupied with work, family, school, hobbies and everything else that keeps us busy. It can sometimes be difficult to keep up with important automotive care tasks.
Important Maintenance Tasks
Make better auto care a priority this year. Call it a "New Year's Resolution," if you want. Stay on track of your regular maintenance schedule. Remember to get your oil changed at recommended mileage intervals, which may be anywhere from 3,000-6,000 miles depending on the age, mileage, make and model of the vehicle. The same goes for tire rotations, which should be done every 5,000 miles to keep your tires wearing evenly and lasting longer.
Automotive Fluid Inspections
Don't forget to check your fluids periodically, especially your engine oil, transmission fluid and radiator coolant. Make sure the levels are good and the fluid itself looks healthy. Any signs of contamination, debris, burning or discoloration should be cause for concern. Any fluid leaks under the vehicle should catch your attention, as well. At the first sign of fluid problems, get your vehicle inspected by an experienced mechanic. You may be able to catch a minor issue before it develops into something much worse!
Other Maintenance Needs
You should also aim to have your brakes, suspension system, cooling system, fuel system and exhaust/emissions system inspected at least once this year. These are all critical systems within your vehicle. If something goes wrong, your car may be unsafe to drive or other problems can develop. It's always smart to address issues early on to avoid major problems later. In our business, we call this "preventative maintenance."
